Drives for Quattroflow® Pumps

Motor Types

AC Induction Motor (Three-Phase)

  • Most commonly used motor in the world for industry applications
  • Standardized motors, available from different manufacturers
  • Cost effective
  • A Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) is needed to control motor speed and thus pump flow rate
  • Required power supply: three-phase grid (e.g. 3 x 230/400 VAC @ 50 Hz or 60 Hz)
  • Active cooling is needed for low rotation speeds
  • External thermal protection via VFD with PTC thermistors
  • Limited torque at low rotation speeds
  • Multi-polar motors and gearboxes are available to reduce the speed and to increase the torque

Pumps and Applications

  • Processes that do not require high turn-down ratios, like a recirculation pump for TFF processes
  • Fully automated systems with an electrical cabinet for the variable frequency drive (frequency converter)

For Quattroflow® Pumps:

Multiple-Use Pumps and Single-Use Pumps
QF1200 Series, QF4400 Series, QF10K Series and QF20K Series

Synchronous Servo Motor

  • With permanent magnets
  • High efficiency and very compact sizes
  • Motor rotating speed (rotor) = speed of the electric field (stator)
  • Defined rotor position
  • Rotation speed with high accuracy
  • Special controller/VFD is needed (depends on motor type)
  • Internal protection systems (thermal, overload) or via VFD
  • Available in many different power classes

Pumps and Applications

  • Processes that need a very high turndown capability, like chromatography or buffer in-line dilution
  • Batch dosing or inline dosing, where high accuracy is needed

For Quattroflow® Pumps:

HT-Compact Pumps
QF1200-HT Series, QF5050 Series and QF4400HT Series

Ideally suited for OEM pumps designed with small dimensions

Brushless EC-Motor

  • With permanent magnets and an internal electronic circuitry system
  • Electronically commutated motor (EC-motor)
  • Similar to a synchronous induction motor
  • Most motors with a DC power supply, AC is also possible
  • High efficiency and compact sizes
  • A special converter/amplifier is needed (depends on motor type)
  • Passive cooling systems
  • Internal protection systems (thermal, overload)
  • Only available in small power classes

Pumps and Applications

  • Processes that need a very high turndown capability
  • Batch dosing or inline dosing, where high accuracy is needed

For Quattroflow® Pumps:

Multiple-Use Pumps and Single-Use Pumps
QF150 Series and QF1200-CV Series

Ideally suited for OEM pumps designed with small dimensions

Pump Designs and Control

Plug-and-Play Pumps: mostly used by end users and in small systems

Features an integrated drive and pump controller inside the pump housing (e.g., QF150 Series, QF1200-HT Series, QF4400-HT Series).

  • The pump is ready to use
  • Small dimensions and low weight
  • With a cable and plug for different electric grids
  • Analog input for external control (e.g., 4-20mA, 0-5VDC…)
  • Keypad for manual (internal) control
  • Standard Quattroflow design with baseplate and housing

With an external control box as an option (e.g., QF4400, QF5050, QF10k, QF20k)

  • An external stainless-steel box, in addition to the pump
  • With a frequency converter/power supply unit/controller for the respective motor
  • Analog input for external control (e.g., 4-20mA, 0-5VDC…)
  • Keypad for manual (internal) control

OEM pumps: mostly used by skid manufacturers and for large systems

  • An external stainless-steel box, in addition to the pump
  • Witha frequency converter/power supply unit/controller for the respective motor
  • Analog input for external control (e.g., 4-20mA, 0-5VDC…)
  • Keypad for manual (internal) control
  • The motor/drive has to be wired by the customer
  • External control via analog inputs or other signals
  • Very small and smart pump design
  • With motor flange, without housing and base plate, or in standard design with base plate and housing
  • High flexibility
  • Adaptation to custom designs
